I love sunday brunches but I've never cooked one ever until last week.
Some friends suggested champagne and bloody marys would be a great way to start a leisurely sunday.
You know what happens when you get me involved, before you could say "over easy", there was caviar with lemon vodka egg mousse on brioche toast, tangerine mimosa's, a fantastic tortilla from Jose Andres's tapas book, Salmorejo, Hamachi ceviche and roasted golden beets.
I could get used to this.
Does the week start on sunday or end on sunday, either way on a frigid winter evening, what better than friends hibernating with a gigantic pot of paella. The degrees of separation are down to two, guests who met from the first time truly came to understand it is a small world.
A small delicious world.
The theme of this weeks sunday supper was keeping cookware to a minimum. It turned out to be one of the most delicious meals I have ever had and pretty damn easy. David and I were "in the moodle" which is the text message code for meet me at Setagaya on St Mark's place in 15 minutes.
Over the course of this year, Meadow Run chickens have been consumed by my 4 close friends in every form ranging from a simple roast by me, Helene's fantastic chicken soup and Rae's Andres inspired paella.
This bird was the last fresh well fed chicken of the season, Meadow run's eggs are also fantastic. How does one put together a supper among friends, phone calls and text messages fly back and forth.
What do you have, what can you pick up ?
Someone had a Chicken, another a dozen eggs, fantastic salad greens, another had a huge truffle and a pantry full of specialty items.

Tonight the egg came before the chicken.
Hamburgers are the Genghis Khan of American food. Multitudes of renditions, additions like foie gras, short ribs, truffles, brioche and stirato rolls. A good burger should be like jumping on a new soft mattress after taking 2 Xanax, essentially make yourself a fantastic bacon cheeseburger.
Snowflake Rolls.
Ground trimmings of Wagyu NY Strip.
Bentons Bacon.
St Agur cheese.
Tomato.
Arugula. (we had no lettuce)
Onion-fig marmalade.
Ketchup.
SALT in the meat.
Beurre maitre d'hotel in the middle of the burger.

It's been a busy week, 3 states in 4 days and lots of road rage in between. A good friend suggested that the best way to cap off a stressful week is with a nice sunday supper as in "Cook for us". It turned out to be a quite exceptional "all Union Square" dinner. The greenmarket is on fire this time of the year.

A good time had by all, that was far superior to Eberly's or Giannone and perhaps the tastiest roast chicken I have had outside Paris.
